The Canine Good Citizen Training class is for dogs and their owners that have proven excellent dog obedience skills in our Family Manners and Super Manners classes. This class is designed for more advanced training and to ready the dog / handler team to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) understands that dog obedience training helps you and your dog develop an important relationship that is built around safety, knowledge, and care. The Canine Good Citizen Test puts dogs through a series of real life challenges to see how well the dog listens to its handler.

We’ll go on a field trip to practice what we’ve learned in the real world to see how our dogs behave and respond to outside stimuli. The CGC Test is part of the class and takes place during the last week.

Our Canine Good Citizen training is an excellent way to begin to work towards Therapy Dog certification. Therapy Dog work is hugely fulfilling for not only the dog but also the handler. Therapy dogs work with children, the elderly, and the sick to educate and bring joy.

• Dogs and handlers learn and practice the 10 skills of the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test
• These real life skills include calmly walking through a crowd, greeting strangers and other dogs on leash, etc.
• At least one week of class is an off-site field trip to practice in the real world
• The CGC test is administered during the final week of class
• A great class to begin work towards Therapy Dog certification!

Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Class size is limited for individualized attention for you and your dog, so don’t wait to register. Please keep in mind that if our classes don’t fit your schedule, you can always sign up for Private In-Home lessons. If you prefer to mail a check for payment instead of using PayPal, you may download our Registration Form and mail with proper payment.
