Dog Rally Obedience Rally O

Jenn Merritt & Bernie teaching Rally O basics

Rally-O is a fun way for you and your dog to practice dog obedience. Dog Rally Obedience integrates basic known commands and tests you and your dog’s ability to work as a team through a course. Good listening on your dog’s part and remaining cool and collected on your part are important skills.

Rally-O competitions are fast becoming a popular dog sport for people and dogs of all ages and backgrounds. All dogs are welcome to participate in this sport whether purebred, mixed breeds, or dogs with disabilities. Even children can compete in Rally-O competitions. Both the APDT and the AKC have Rally-O competitions and matches nationwide. There are various titles and levels that you and your dog can earn. For more information about Rally-O competitions, visit the AKC’s website.

Our Rally-O class walks you through the basics of how to navigate a Level 1 Rally-O course and how to understand the signs. Each week, we’ll add to the skills from the previous week, building until the final class..a Rally-O competition for class members.

This is all in good fun and is a more laid back version of dog obedience competitions. Treats and rewards are allowed in Level 1. Try it and you and your dog will be hooked!

  • Rally-O is a fun way to integrate known commands, continued learning, and teamwork.
  • Dog and handler teams follow a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as Sit-Down, Turns, Fronts and Finishes, etc. Communication is encouraged between dog and handler, fostering teamwork.
  • Our class will follow guidelines of APDT Rally and all dogs, purebred, mixed breeds and dogs with disabilities are encouraged to participate.
  • We will learn and practice all the exercise signs for Level 1 Rally courses, learning new signs each week in preparation for each week’s mock course.
  • Dogs must be graduates of Puppy or Family Manners and Super Manners or comparable classes with permission of instructor and should already have basic training (sit, down, come, stay, heel).
  • Dogs MUST be non-aggressive towards people and other dogs.
  • For more information about APDT Rally, please visit the APDT Rally website.
