Ariel and Joe Blue Dog's Philosophy

Blue Dog believes that most animals are kind souls that need gentle guidance that teaches them what to do instead of punishing them for what not to do. Blue Dog also believes that we must evaluate individual personality, environment, diet, and exercise routine to effectively resolve problematic behaviors and achieve "whole health". This "Whole Health" approach takes into account the mind, body, and spirit of each animal to help them achieve a better quality of life with their families.

Many issues that pets and their people face can be due to miscommunication/ relationship, poor health/diet, anxiety and habitual tension in the body.

We can help you to better understand your pet's behavior and communicate more effectively. We will reward and motivate your companion with treats, praise and toys and build your relationship through trust and teamwork. Learning can and should be fun for both of you! We do not use any force methods, no choke, prong type, or electronic training collars, and no verbal mistreatment.

Some behavioral and training issues can be traced back to lack of exercise and mental stimulation and poor diet. Routinely, commercial based diets that contain high amounts of sugar, corn, artificial colors, preservatives, etc. can be a contributing factor to hyperactivity, reactivity, and other behavioral issues just as "junk food" affects children. Reading labels is a great place to begin.

Anxiety can impact behavior is a number of ways sometimes making an animal overreact or shut down in the presence of stress. Chronic anxiety creates habitual tension in the body that can create a constant cycle of reactivity. We can show you simple techniques for alleviating stress and anxiety in your pet that can allow them learn responsiveness instead of simply reacting to the world around them.

Special needs animals deserve modified and inventive techniques. Animals with blindness, deafness or physical limitations have the capacity to learn and can enjoy a long and healthy life.

Please contact Blue Dog to discuss training options for you and your companion.
